OUR INSTRUCTORS

”Everyone has the opportunity to play – but it comes in the classroom, in the weight room, in the cages and on the practice field. Opportunity is earned before the game. The game isn’t the opportunity.” – Lonnie Alameda

Scott Garrett

Facility Manager | Baseball/Fastpitch Softball Instructor

Scott grew up right in the Lincoln County area. A 1992 graduate of East Lincoln High School, Scott was a standout player in both baseball and football. He had an early start in baseball, playing through the Optimist club from T-Ball through High School, before heading to college and a professional career in baseball.

Scott decided upon NC State in football upon graduation from East Lincoln High School, after being recruited by Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina and NC State. Though he loved both sports, he eventually felt the greater pull to baseball and transferred to Appalachian State to play college baseball. He was drafted as a 23rd round draft pick for the Cincinnati Reds as a catcher for their minor league team.

Baseball led Scott, who played for Bruce Bolick as an East Lincoln Mustang, to minor league training in Sarasota where he remained in the off-season. Scott played for Team USA in 1995 in the First Pacific Games. Scott suffered a knee injury in 1997, but continued to play until 1999. Subsequently, he retired from baseball and returned to Appalachian State to finish his college degree. He served as the baseball pitching coach in 2000 and 2001.

After leaving his baseball career behind, Scott and a close friend opened a training facility in Sarasota, Florida. However, with his marriage to Melanie and the birth of their daughter Makenna, Scott felt the urge to return to his hometown in Lincoln County.

Scott’s biggest asset to your training is his desire to work one-on-one with your athlete. He has instructed athletes for over 25 years, instruction in over 50,000 lessons.

“The biggest reward is to turn on the TV and watch a kid I have worked with,” Scott says. Training is part of his dream, a way for him to use his expertise and training to make today’s kids better players.
